February progress report
It has been a very busy month.
Long answer: I have been busy with (mostly) getting the second chapter done. For context, it is almost finished, but there are still some critical features left to implement. I'll reveal more about that with time, but now let us get to the less boring stuff.
Expanding on the map creation from my last post, I also went on to create darker maps in contrast to the bright and cheery urban environments shown before – albeit they are simpler since there is no need to make much space for the player to work with in comparison.
A big and persistent worry of mine during development is whether or not I am making scenes too long. If the story beats drag on too much, it’s easy to lose a player and the scene will be skipped (you can skip text with shift by the way), making the entire process pointless in the long term!
I also need to be careful on how I tackle the big reveals and avoid keeping players in suspense for too long before all the worthwhile moments actually unfold. More of a reminder for myself, honestly...
On the side, I’ve been putting work into the general quality of life as shown above – a chapter selection room!
This is barely scratching the surface of how much I have been changing. Many inconsistencies in the project have been cleaned up to better aid the story's flow, and I have introduced a better approach to how I want to present the mechanics while still keeping an exciting enough narrative to follow.
So that is all everyone! See you in the next mon-
…maybe “soon” was a poor choice of words on my end.
You see, the logo IS finished aside from some small touches. The actual reason is that I have some other plans for that game page overhaul to tie everything together and release it all at once! But it's simply not ready yet.
I can’t promise when that’ll come out, but I can promise that it will be worth the wait. I might elaborate more on this in my next log (or the one after), so stay tuned!
Until then,
