March progress report (& other news)

Hi. World's slowest developer here.
Chapter 2 is right at the end of its development at the time I’m writing this, so this log is going to share bigger news than usual and will probably be the last log focused on Ch. 2. Also kind of a postmortem.
Let’s begin!
To avoid an inevitable wall of text, I'll summarize through this table:
Chapter status | Anything else worth noting |
---|---|
Chapter 1: Completed | 1-1.5 hours, will get a quality of life overhaul |
Chapter 2: (99%) Completed | Up to 2 hours of story/action |
Chapter 3: Development starts soon-ish | Shorter length (aiming for only an hour), midpoint release |
Chapter 4: Not started yet | Aiming for 1-1.5 hours |
Chapter 5: Not started yet | Aiming for an action-packed 1-1.5 hours or less |
Chapter 6: Not started yet | Shortest chapter, least amount of action but most story (an hour or less) |
Chapter 7: Not started yet | Aiming for 1-1.5 hours, full release |
Boring postmortem thesis
And now for the wall of text because I inevitably need to elaborate. Feel free to skip this.
Chapter 2 took a lot out of me. That entire segment of the game has maybe triple the amount of content compared to the first? This is also where the story really starts shifting gears. It’ll be around 1.5, maybe 2 hours worth of content.
Developing it has made me learn to make things that I had no idea were even possible with RPG Maker. That knowledge will serve me well once I get to all the future content this game will have to offer. Fun animation tricks, battles with (even more) style and settings that are move advanced are some of the examples.
The process was absolutely tedious but was so worth it in the end. As tempting as it is for me to just release ch. 2 and jump out of a window, I still have lots of work left before I can put out something stable.
Now to the other chapters...
Chapter 3 will be less ambitious length-wise, and likely not as intense. It is also the midpoint release - which means that once Chapter 3 is finished, I will release a major update with the 3 first chapters publicly available. After that, it’s all the way to 7, and the full game will be released!
Chapter 4 to 7 all have their own quirks planned out, but I can’t give anything concrete on them yet. Not all chapters will be the same length, and some less or more intense than others - I can't have this story be all explosions all the time.
Overall, this whole project is supposed to be 7-10 hours of content. I put lots of (maybe a little too much) love put into each scene and mechanic, so development for every chapter (assuming nothing gets in the way) is a few months for each.
And as always, remember I am a one dev team. Development can be slow or fast, and take many unexpected turns. I might also never finish this game.
So while Wanderer loses their mind over RPG Maker databases, please download my free game so I can take the money and run (‐^▽^‐)

From here, it's finishing everything that's left in the chapter and then going back to the boring work. Thank you for reading!
Until then,
